Kamal Hasan supports cause of Aids affected kids!

Ulaganayagan Kamal Hassan, project ambassador of Hridayaragam 2010, announced the details of the upcoming event that is a fund raiser to set up an orphanage for HIV Aids affected children.

Held at the Green Park hotel this morning, the media interaction saw representatives from the World Malyalee Council and the Madras Medical Mission who have been involved with Hridayragam since 2006.

Said Kamal Hassan, “I thank the media for their support in raising awareness about the causes that Hridayaragam has been supporting so far. This year the funds collected from the event will be used to set up an orphanage for HIV affected children, in Chennai. The function to be held on 18th April will see the participation of both the Kerala and Tamil film industries coming together on one platform. Its also an occasion where awards will be accorded to the film fraternity. I am happy that Master Vincent will be getting the lifetime achievement award. I am not at liberty to disclose the rest of the names. I see it as a win win situation for all.”

Kamal released the first ticket of the event before which a letter of appreciation and a list of names of the 160 beneficiaries of free heart surgeries performed from the funds collected in 2006 and 2008 were presented to him.

VC Praveen, India Regional President of the World Malyalee Council said, “Kamal sir has been of tremendous help to our cause over the years. It was in fact he who suggested that the orphanage we are planning to make should be for HIV children who have a short life and are suffering for no fault of theirs. This is the first time an award ceremony is being linked to a charitable event and we have the confirmed participation of both the Kerala and Tamil film industries.”

Dr Mullasari Ajit of the Madras Medical Mission also spoke on the occasion lauding the efforts of the TN Government in providing free mediacal aid to all below the poverty line. The tickets for the event to be held at the Nehru Indoor Stadium on 18 th April are priced between Rs 250, 500, 2000, 5000 and Rs 10,000.
